Just like after 9/11, expect the way of travel to change after COVID-19

Consider the "old" way of travel to change drastically.

From longer boarding times, fewer destinations, and blood tests at your final arrival locations are just some of the new measures coming and already in place after COVID-19.

Will you be traveling any time soon?

We had it so easy...

Sure we had to take off our shoes and belts. Put our carry-on in the x-ray machine. Go through a metal detector. Then collect your stuff and get to the gate before they closed the door.

When you landed in a foreign land, you made a line and handed your passport to an immigration control agent. He or she would click some keys on their computer and stamp your passport.

And to think that post 9/11 some travelers thought this was a bit much and something of a bother.

Well wait til you hear this.

Ready for change?

How much change are you willing to put up with for the safety of all?

As airports start to re-open and people start to travel again, the way we used to travel will forever be gone.

Below we look at some of the new measures and procedures already put in place at some major airports all in the name of safety and health.

Experts are already calling this pandemic, and others to come, the "new terrorism".

And now airlines and governments are scrambling to combat this new foe.

Empty Airports

Post-Covid19 Travel

What's coming

Airports and governments are currently debating and considering some of the following measures including;

  • no carry-on bags
  • no complimentary upgrades
  • no more VIP lounges
  • hospital-grade surgical gloves
  • facemasks
  • no more counter check-ins, everything will be self-check-in on a kiosk
  • no more bag porters, you will have to drop off your own bags
  • immunity tests and passports
  • blood tests at any given time
  • tunnels to disinfect passengers

Oh yes, it's coming.

Full-automation and digital tech will be the new norm. Fewer points of touch at airports. Calling for biometrics being used for you to check-in, board, and walk-through customs with just their faces.

Some airports and airlines are already using these technologies.

The new normal at airports will be a universal implementation of online check-in and contactless payments.

Some have even started to take it a step further and denied non-traveling persons from entering the airport all together except for those accompanying traveling minors or others who need help.

There will be extensive use of all biometric systems for check-in. New protocals for you to drop off your own bags. Travel bags will also be put through some sort of disinfectant bubble system. Not to mention disinfactant tunnels for travelers.

Expect signs and floor markings to comply with new social distancing measures.

Larger areas to deal with the more spacing required for social distancing.

Plexiglass barricades at all customer service counters. With sanitation stations almost at every turn.

Plus, something that has already been implemented in major airports, thermal scanning that checks large crowds for individuals with higher than normal body temperatures.

Only those that have been sanitized and deemed fit to fly will be allowed to travel.

Before you get on

You won't need to touch anything.  Everything will be touchless. Face recognition technology to board.

Seats to be blocked on-board. Electrostatic spraying as boarding. Flight attendants in full protective gear.

And forget the peanuts. Food services are expected to end altogether.

When you get there

Off the bat, international travelers will be needing to produce some sort of immunization documentation showing proof that you have been sanitized and are able to enter the country safely.

All arriving travelers upon arrival will most likely be subjected to a temperature scan.

And some airports are taking it a step further and testing travelers via blood tests before they are allowed into foreign territory.

Although it does not show that all of these measures will be implemented across the board at all airports.  But both the airports and airlines are pushing for a uniform system to be set in place around the globe.
