In an unprecendented move, ISPS officials met today to discuss updating the size of rosters from the current 16 to a 20 player limit.

In an unprecedented move, ISPS officials met today to discuss updating the size of rosters from the current 16 to a 20 player limit.

This move comes just in time for the first major event of the year, the 2022 Hispanic World Championship in El Paso, Texas.

The International Softball Players Association (ISPS) is making a move toward the future. An emergency meeting concluded today and one of its outcomes was to allow club teams to carry up to 20 athletes on their rosters instead of 16.

"[This] gives more opportunity for people who want to play," said ISPS Commissioner Manuel T. Ferrero III in his closing remarks Wednesday afternoon, "and we will see how it works out."

The decision makes official what has been taking place at upcoming events, including the 2022 Hispanic World Championship in El Paso, Texas where teams were forced over the week to cut members from rosters due to space limitations. It allows for four extra spots on club rosters which are expected to lead not only to more opportunities for athletes but more players overall.

The move to the 20-person roster is only one in a series of changes made by ISPS officials during this week's meetings at their World Headquarters in Miami, Florida.
