Mariel Escobar is the National Director for ISPS Guatemala. She hosts and governs some of the best slow-pitch leagues, tournaments, and championships in all of Guatemala and Central America.

Escobar's work with ISPS has helped to grow the sport throughout Central America. The tournaments that she organizes are well attended by players from all over the region, and her leagues attract some of the best talents in the area. Her passion for the sport and her dedication to helping others enjoy it have made her a valuable member of the slow-pitch community. Thanks to Mariel Escobar, ballplayers in Central America have a place to compete and learn, and the sport of slow pitch is continuing to grow in popularity.

A few weeks ago we interviewed her before the ISPS CENTRAL AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, here is that interview:

ISPS: Hello Mariela. How are you?
Congratulations on the 7th anniversary of the SLOW PITCH FAMILY LEAGUE IN GUATEMALA.
Tell us a little about how and when the league started.

MARIEL ESCOBAR: We started in 2014 with some friendly games, with parents of baseball children, a few months later we continued playing and in 2015 we organized ourselves as teams.

ISPS: How many teams did the league start with? And how many compete now?

ME: In 2015, when we were ordained, we were 4 teams, today we are 25 teams

ISPS: What is your favorite thing in the league? What makes you love what you do?

ME: I love baseball...
This is the point where many projects are born, and the Slow Pitch Recreational League is my contribution so that anyone who wants to practice this discipline has access to it.

ISPS: If you could do something again that you couldn't do, what would it be and how would you do it?

ME: Wow.. What a strong question..
And although the answer seems stronger, it is the truth. There is nothing that I could not do, this project was born from my heart, and every game day, every tournament, every anniversary, I dedicate my life to it.

ISPS: What do you see for the future of the league and with ISPS GUATEMALA?

ME: By joining ISPS, as a first point, I have found support for both the sport and the league, unfortunately, Guatemala is not known for promoting Slow Pitch and now I see endless possibilities for the name of my country to be heard in other countries.

ISPS: Will GUATEMALA ever win an ISPS World Cup?

ME: Not doubt it!
We have players we are proud of and if we unite them, we make the perfect team, with Experience and Knowledge

ISPS: Would you like to say something or greet someone?

ME: 

Actually, I am very satisfied with my work, when I formalized the league 7 years ago, I proposed 5 goals
Very satisfied to meet our goals.
