City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and ISPS Commissioner Manuel T. Ferrero III
Every year, the Miami Mayor's Cup becomes more than just a tournament—it’s a celebration of camaraderie, competition, and slow-pitch softball culture. For the past 11 years, the Mayor’s Cup has been a signature event, showcasing some of the most talented men’s slow-pitch teams in the region. But this year, a new chapter is being written into the Mayor’s Cup story, and it’s one for the history books.
In 2024, ISPS USA Slow Pitch Softball, in collaboration with the City of Miami and Mayor Francis Suarez, will introduce the very first Women's Division at the 12th Annual Mayor’s Cup. This addition was inspired by the incredible success of the Shenandoah Park Women's Division, which was also hosted by ISPS USA Slow Pitch Softball earlier this year. Supported by Commissioner Manolo Reyes, Joe Carollo, Miami-Dade County, Commissioner Eileen Higgins, Old Bull Athletics, and Brightside Bar Miami, the Shenandoah women's league was a smash hit—proving that the appetite for women's slow-pitch is stronger than ever.
Now, on September 14th, 2024, at Shenandoah Park, the stage is set for an electrifying display of skill, athleticism, and passion as the best women’s teams from the Shenandoah League, along with surprise guest teams, take to the diamond. This monumental event marks a major step in growing women’s slow-pitch softball in Miami, giving female athletes a much-deserved platform to shine.
As Commissioner Manuel T. Ferrero III of ISPS expressed, “Our mission at ISPS has always been to create opportunities for slow-pitch athletes worldwide. This year, we are thrilled to be breaking new ground by giving women the chance to compete at the Mayor’s Cup. It’s a game-changer for our sport and our community.”
The addition of a women's division isn't just a token gesture. It represents a shift toward greater inclusivity in slow-pitch softball and acknowledges the rising tide of women athletes who are just as dedicated, skilled, and passionate as their male counterparts. The Women's Division is expected to draw intense competition and solidify itself as a cornerstone of the Mayor's Cup for years to come.
It’s clear that Miami is becoming a hub for slow-pitch innovation and community-driven events. ISPS has continually pushed the envelope, expanding access and opportunities for athletes of all genders. “We couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve done alongside the City of Miami,” says Ferrero. “With events like these, we’re helping to build a stronger, more inclusive future for slow-pitch athletes worldwide.”
So, whether you're a seasoned player, a fan of the game, or simply looking for an exciting community event to attend, mark your calendar for September 14th. The competition is fierce, the talent is top-notch, and the atmosphere will be electric. Who will rise to the challenge and take home the cup? You’ll have to be there to find out.
