After an intense weekend of competition at the 2024 Boricua Open Championships, the Chiriviscos slow-pitch softball team has officially been crowned Category "A" Champions for the first time in their history. With a display of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship, the Chiriviscos left it all on the field, securing their place as the tournament's top team in one of the most thrilling final matchups of the summer.
From the moment the tournament began, Chiriviscos showed that they were a team to be reckoned with. Led by standout performances from players like Daniel Mendez, Mauro Mendez Vasquez, Pablo Roberto Dávila, and Manolo Rodriguez, Chiriviscos played with determination and precision, ultimately winning the championship in dramatic fashion.
“What a fantastic journey for Chiriviscos,” said ISPS Commissioner Manuel T. Ferrero III. “They demonstrated the kind of perseverance and dedication that embodies the spirit of slow-pitch softball. Watching them come together as a team and rise to the occasion, especially in a tournament of this caliber, was nothing short of incredible. Their energy and sportsmanship were an inspiration to everyone.”
The 2024 Boricua Open Championships brought out the best in every team, but it was the Chiriviscos who stood tall, battling through tough competition and demonstrating why they deserved the title.
Mariel Escobar, ISPS Guatemala National Director, echoed those sentiments, praising the team’s performance and unity: “I couldn’t be prouder of Chiriviscos. Their journey to becoming champions is a testament to their hard work and passion for the game. This victory shows what’s possible when players come together as one, and Chiriviscos exemplified that perfectly.”
With their victory, Chiriviscos has etched their names into Boricua Open history. Not only did they deliver unforgettable moments, but they also represented their nation, their community, and the sport with class and pride. From Manolo Murga’s incredible plays to the outstanding efforts of Gabs Sandoval, Nicolle Alvarez, Jessica Giron, Inmar Jeanquin, and Raul Cardenas, the team came together as a united force.
“We played our hearts out,” said team member Manolo Rodriguez. “This victory means everything to us, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our families, fans, and teammates.”
The 2024 Boricua Open Championships saw plenty of action, but none more memorable than the victory of Chiriviscos in Category "A". With their first championship under their belt, the future looks bright for this talented group of players.
“We are already looking forward to defending our title,” said Daniel Mendez, one of the team's star players. “This tournament was just the beginning.”
As we look forward to next year’s edition of the Boricua Open, we can only imagine what more surprises and talents are in store. For now, though, all eyes are on Chiriviscos, who have proven themselves as true champions.
A special thanks to our sponsors, including Comando, International Slow Pitch Softball, and Avg300, for their continued support and commitment to the growth of slow-pitch softball around the world.
