RICCIONE - RIMINI, ITALY

Situated on the Adriatic Riviera of Romagna, Riccione is bordered by Rimini to the north (10 km) and Misano Adriatico to the south (4 km).

 

WHY VISIT IT

 

One of the most famous seaside resorts on the Adriatic, Riccione is renowned for its trends where fashion, elegance, a sparkling atmosphere, and life’s pleasures immediately win over visitors.

The wide beach, with all modern facilities, Viale Ceccarini and its boutiques, trendy nightspots, water parks, discos in the hills, and the nightlife on the beach at the mouth of the River Marano are some of the reasons that attract young people and those in search of a glamorous holiday to this resort.

WHEN TO GO AND WHAT TO SEE

 

A visit to Riccione is fun all year round, but the Green Pearl of the Adriatic - so-called thanks to its tree-lined streets, parks, and gardens - is at its best from spring through to summer.

From Easter to September it becomes the ideal destination for those who want to spend a weekend or a holiday enjoying everything the resort has to offer.

Its heart is Viale Ceccarini, buzzing both during the day and at night. Visitors can take a look at the latest fashion on display in the trendy boutiques or enjoy an outdoor aperitif, watching out for all the hottest new trends.

The town also has something for those who want to visit places of cultural interest. Villa Franceschi is an early twentieth-century building that houses the Modern Art Gallery and on the seafront, not far from Viale Ceccarini, stands Villa Mussolini, once the seaside residence of Mussolini himself, which now hosts exhibitions and other cultural events all year round.

The Municipal Pesa Centre houses the Territorial Museum, packed with archaeological material and environmental reconstructions, dating from prehistory to the Roman period, as well as skeletal remains of a huge, prehistoric bison and those of elephants, bears, and rhinos who lived in the area thousands of years ago.

But Riccione wouldn’t live up to its reputation without an intense nightlife that, like a magnet, draws a young, sophisticated crowd to the discos in the hills.

A visit to the parks is a must! Each year, Aquafan attracts crowds of young people and families for a day of pure fun in its pools and on its slides and water games.

Next door is Oltremare, an extraordinary journey through the wonders of nature, with a dolphin show at the end. 

 

ON THE TABLE

 

In Riccione, food is traditional. Although the piadina is the undisputed queen, visitors shouldn’t leave before trying homemade pasta, such as tagliatelle, tagliolini, strozzapreti, or tortellini with fish sauce, wonderful grilled fish or fish soup in one of Riccione's many excellent restaurants.

The inland area produces excellent extra-virgin olive oil, tasty salamis, and typical local wines such as Sangiovese, Pagadebit, and Trebbiano and Albana or Cagnina - ideal for cakes and desserts - which can all be bought from several local vineyards.

 

HAVING FUN

 

Riccione offers lots of places where friends can get together or visitors can meet new people, for a fun evening set to a variety of different music. In particular, the famous discos in the hills, like Cocoricò and Nu Echoes, welcome young people all year round, whilst the nightspots concentrated on the beach in the Marano area, near the border with Rimini, are the place to be in the summer.

 

KEEPING FIT

 

Since the 80s, Riccione Terme has successfully developed its spa activities using spring waters for various treatments. Just a stone’s throw from the sea and set in a 40,000 m² park, the spa also has a beauty and wellness center.

The Swimming Pool Complex offers excellent facilities with two Olympic-size pools, one indoor and one outdoor for the summer, and various diving boards. It is open to the public, except during competitions, courses, or team training.

 

SIGNIFICANT APPOINTMENTS

 

At Easter, Riccione inaugurates the tourist season with spectacular events. In July, Ciné takes place, with several days dedicated to cinema; in the heart of the summer Radio DeeJay brings holidays to life with live radio shows and concerts, and all year round, the Swimming Pool Complex hosts national and international events. "Backlit Dawns" are concerts on the beach at sunrise.

 

IN THE SURROUNDINGS

 

Providing a wonderful panoramic balcony overlooking the Riviera, the Castle of the Agolanti - liegemen of the Malatesta family - stands on the hills behind Riccione. Recently restored, it hosts exhibitions and other cultural events.

Situated on green rolling hills, other places worth visiting include the villages of Montefiore Conca (20 km); Mondaino (22 km); Saludecio (20 km); and Montegridolfo (25 km).
